PA School Services Reminders:

  • 2024-2025 FAFSA Now Available! – The first F in “FAFSA” stands for “FREE!” While there are numerous websites where students can get help filing the FAFSA® form for a fee, these sites are not affiliated with or endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education (ED). We urge you to advise your students not to pay for assistance that is provided for free at ED’s website, studentaid.gov. New this year, for those FAFSA questions referencing financial forms, help topics feature images of those forms with relevant line numbers highlighted.
    • EFC Calculator – The FAFSA4Caster is no longer available, but families can use the EFC Calculator provided by College Board to get an estimated EFC.

    • Creating An FSA Account – Don’t forget to remind students to create an FSA Account (FSA ID) prior to completing the FAFSA application. For dependent students, one parent needs to also create an FSA Account (FSA ID).

    • Calculating Cost – Families can estimate the cost of various colleges via the Net Price Calculator (NPC) at collegecost.ed.gov.

    • Financial Aid Workshop Materials – Our 2022 Financial Aid Workshops for counselors were conducted in September and October and materials are available online.

    • Updated Toolkits – Updated FAN and FAFSA Toolkits publication packets are available via our online ordering system. These kits contain a variety of our printed financial aid publications, such as our Student Aid Guide that can be shipped directly to your school or home address.

    • Need Assistance? – Our Access Partners are available to provide assistance to families completing FAFSA applications. Please contact your Access Partner to find out how to set families up with an appointment.

RESOURCES:

Changes to Your Family’s Financial Situation:

If you or your family’s financial situation has changed significantly from what is reflected on your federal income tax return (e.g., if you’ve lost a job or have experienced a drop in income), you may be eligible to have your financial aid adjusted. Complete the FAFSA questions as instructed on the application (including the transfer of tax return and income information), submit your FAFSA form, then contact the school you plan to attend to discuss how your current financial situation has changed.

Electronic FAFSA® Toolkit:

PHEAA offers a FAFSA Toolkit which contains items available for download as PDFs, such as flyers, ads for school publications, web banners, social media posts, FSA Account instructions, a FAFSA tip sheet and checklist, PHEAA Higher Education Access Partner contact information, and more!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION BELOW:

****In order to complete the FAFSA, the parent/guardian AND the student will FIRST need to create an FSA ID at fsaid.ed.gov. In order to do so, you will need to know social security numbers and have a working email (Student school emails will not work). It will take the Social Security Administration 1-3 days to process and verify the information. You will receive an email once that happens. The next step is to visit FAFSA.ORG to complete the Financial Aid Application. You will need tax information for this step of the process.*****
